This gearhead needs your help. My 56 was originally a 6 but is now a .040 over 283. This engine has a short water pump with a 6 blade steel fan blade. The radiator is a 4 core and has never been run. The rad support is from the original 6 cylinder and the fan blade is only about a 1/2" to 3/4" from the rad. I guess my question is, will this set-up be ok to keep the engine cool enough. Any help will be appreciated. Thanking you in advance for your help with my potential problem.

How about a fan shroud. Best to install one while you're going back together.

The addition of a shroud should be adequate to control the engine temperature. Also, since the car is modified and not being kept original, another option could be an electric fan which could very easily be mounted in front of the radiator to keep her cool. The fan could be operated automatically from a temperature switch or from a manual switch.
