HELLO, This is my first classic chevy which is a 1965 chevy impala with a 327 stock engine from what I was told. I have had the car for about a month I put some gas in for the first time I pumped in the premium gas in I am not sure what was in the tank before or for how long. My concern is when I shut the car off it seems to hiccup or knock then shut off, it seems to run ok besides that. Could it be that the old gas was dirty? should I add any type of additive like lead additive? Any help would be appreciated Thanks! Henry |

Henry, I could tell you a list of things, that it might be.The thing that comes to mind frist is, you said that you put in premium gas into your stock 327 engine. If you are going to run 93+, you will need to change the timing setting. The motor timing is set up for 87 or 89 octane not, 93+. that, is if noboby has change it ? If you do not want to change the timing setting now, just run 87 or 89 octane in it to see if it stops the impala hiccups . Also if the motor is being advnce by fuel and not by timing, after you run the car and shut it off, it should start right back up. If not, check your timing. I hope this helps a little bit. |

Run-on is the engine "dieseling". Carbon buildup or soot causes hot spot that lights off low octane gasoline. Check timing and idle RPM are OK. Keep on using the higher octane gas and give the 327 a good ol' full open throttle run to clean things up. |

Just shut it off in Drive until you can get it fixed. Run-on is generally lean idle condition or idle set too high. |

Thanks for all the responses, the fall weather has been pretty wet so I have not had the chance to give a full open throttle ride as of yet, but in response to some of the questions first from jim, my 65 is a rag it is dark midnight blue does appear black from a distance, the car seem to run fine it still runs fine it was justing the anoying hicup upon shut down. I will advise once the weather clears up about all the advice and comments i have received. THANKS! |
