Transmission ot converter Jun. 26, 2009 3:05 am
Jude
Hello; I have a 56 chevy. It has a V8 with a powerglide. Bought the car in pieces. I am trying to attach the powerglide /torque converter. In the shop manual (page 7-90) it talks about aligning the "X" marks on the flywheel and converter. I can't see any marks at all. How should I proceed? Thanks

The X mark may have been there only when new for assembly id. To install the torque converter in your Powerglide there are three different sets of splines that must engage between the input shaft on the transmission and the torque converter. Push the converter onto the input shaft and at the same time you spin the converter in a clockwise rotation, also push on the converter and everytime one set of splines engages the converter will push back closer towards the back of the transmission. Once all three sets of splines are engaged the converter will be in the correct location.
