Hello, I seem to be having an ignition issue that just started, here is what its doing: The car will start while cranking it over, but then die as soon as I release the key. I am thinking it may be the ignition or for some weird reason I have a strange feeling that it may be the starter solenoid, but would hate to waste time by changing the wrong part. Any help would be very appreciated. Steve |

I replaced the solenoid, same problem. I broke out the test light and turned the key to run, I tested the + side of my coil and no power there. I turn the key to run trying to fire her up and get juice, that's when she will fire and then as soon as I release the key to the run position she will die. I also tested the R on the solenoid and got the same results. |

Steve, rule of thumb when a solenoid goes bad you will hear a clicking sound when you try and start the car, since you have checked the switch and found a short replace it. C.A.R.S carries the switch it's part #10803, price is $13.00. |

there should be a small wire connected to the solenoid, move it to the other side. That is if you have been working on the starter you may have connected it to the wrong place. |

Thanks to all responded except for Larry what the hell does "BLACK TAPE AND LET IT RIP" mean? that may be good for your junker not mine. Chevy Dude: I have in the pass had a weird issue with a solenoid on a 73 Camaro with a 4-speed in it. The car would start just fine without making any wierd noises but.... when I tried to turn the car off it would stay running and had to pop the clutch to stall it, I thought it was the ignition and had it replaced to find the same issue, as soon as I replaced the solenoid problem solved ----- Thanks for the response. Silvereagle: I had no issues with the starter and had no messed with it at all, I made sure I had the "S" wire and the "R" wire in the proper location. The car cranks over fine and fires in the start position, its when I release the key to the run position it will die. I did some more testing over the weekend, I went to my buddies house that has an old rat rod and tested his ignition system. I found that when you turn the key to the run position the +side of the coil is hot, I did this on my Elky and got no juice, the only time I got juice is when I tried firing the car up, that would explain why the car would fire on startup then die in the run position. I'm pretty sure it is either a loose connection on my switch or the switch is bad itself. Will that part #10803 fit my El Camino? |

| Part #10803 is the ignition switch for a 1967 Chevelle which should be the same as your 1967 El Camnio and it is $13.00 and in stock. Order it at www.carsinc.com or call us to order it at 1 800 CARS INC or 1 248 853-8900 |
